Life in Downtown Annapolis.

Find your next home

Look at the building as well as the address

The City of Annapolis Historic Preservation Division provides a district map, design resources and guidance on exterior changes. If you are considering a downtown property, use those resources to establish which questions apply to the address. Make a list of the changes you would want to make before choosing a home around a renovation idea. A historic appearance alone does not tell you the property’s review history.

Research preservation arrangements early

Historic Annapolis describes a preservation-easement program and offers property-specific verification. That is another source to consult when applicable, alongside the city’s preservation staff and the documents for the house. Ask the relevant professionals to explain the requirements for your plans. Keep a seller’s description, prior approved work and your proposed changes as separate items in the research.

Make parking part of the floor-plan conversation

The city’s parking page separates garages, on-street parking and residential permits, with maps and current program information. For each home, establish whether it has its own parking and what other arrangements you would use. Try the route from the vehicle to the front door with everyday tasks in mind. A permit application, access to a garage and an on-site space solve different problems.

Visit for an ordinary day

Choose a visit that helps you imagine living here rather than only spending an afternoon downtown. Notice how rooms connect, where deliveries arrive, how you would store a bicycle and which outdoor space belongs to the home. Compare the street from the rooms you use most and try your regular destinations. The wider Annapolis results below are a starting point; confirm the exact location of a home before adding it to a downtown shortlist.

A few things to know

Downtown Annapolis: before you choose a home.

Have another question?
01Where do I research changes to a historic Annapolis home?

Start with the city’s Historic Preservation Division and the property documents. Historic Annapolis can also answer questions about whether it holds an easement on a specific property. Obtain advice for the actual work you propose.

02Does a downtown home automatically include a parking space?

Check the individual property. The city provides separate information about residential permits, street parking and garages; do not treat one of those arrangements as proof of a space conveyed with the home.

03Are these listings only in this neighborhood?

No. These results use the broader Annapolis MLS city filter. Neighborhood aliases and feed coverage still need verification. Ask our team to help confirm the location of a home; the results shown here are not a complete neighborhood inventory.
