Hillsmere Shores is a CDP (census-designated place) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is a coastal community and suburb of Annapolis. It is a nautical community, historic, lovely and blessed with breathtaking ocean views and seaside charm. It is highly walk-able and bike-able and features a unique concentration of cozy row houses. Real estate in the community predominantly owner-occupied and primarily consists of single family homes and townhomes. Construction in the area has happened in a series of stages beginning in 1960. The CDP is home to the Key School, a wonderful non-sectarian private educational institution. The school encompasses a beautiful fifteen-acre campus and has four educational levels; 2.5-year old-kindergarten, lower school Grades 1-4, middle school 5-8 and upper-school 9-12. The Key School prides itself on educating children from preschool through senior high in a progressive co-educational college preparatory program. Common ancestries include German, English, Irish, Italian and others. English is the primary written and spoken language in the CDP, followed by Spanish, Urdu and others.

The CDP spans two square miles, 1.4 square miles of land and .6 square miles of water. It is a wealthy community with a mixed workforce of white, blue and no-collar workers. In 2000, the population was approximately 2,977 and the population density was about 2,141 people per square mile. In 2016, the estimated median household income was $112,520 and the estimated per capita income was $55,232. In the same year the estimated median house or condo value in the CDP was $426,465 and the mean price on all housing units was approximately $427,038. The current median real estate price is $398,544 and the current average rental price on all housing units is approximately $2,516.

The average commute for residents of Hilsmere Shores is about 15-30 minutes each direction. Most commuters from the CDP drive private vehicles for their daily commutes, but carpooling is another wonderful option. Hillsmere Beach is a local favorite spot for fun in the sun. The beach features a beautiful sandy beach, foot paths for walking/jogging/biking,, outdoor showers, swimming areas and more. The community is also blessed with picnic pavilions, grills, playgrounds, volley ball court, rain gardens, open fields for play and much more. Most homes in the CDP were built between 1970 and 1999, but there are are a few more historic homes which were built between 1940 and 1969. Most homes for sale range in size from 3-5 bedroom and feature 1-4 bedrooms. There are other real estate options like apartments and townhomes, but they are much more rare, traditional single family homes are the norm for the CDP.
