The Beacon Hill/Skidmore area is often considered a single neighborhood in the city of Annapolis, in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. However, in reality Skidmore is an unincorporated community and Beacon Hill is a separate entity and both are suburbs of Annapolis not actually a part of Annapolis. The community of Skidmore rests on the western end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The area encompassing Skidmore and Beacon Hill is beautiful and coastal. It is a nautical area, densely populated, walkable and historic. The area is home to beautiful views, waterfront activities and amenities and a rich maritime history that dates all the way from the early days of our nation. Residents find many things to love about the area, like the peacefulness, the low crime rates, and its beauty and old-world charm. The Skidmore portion of the area is home to Sandy Point State Park. And the park is home to the Sandy Point Shoal Light. The historic Shoal light was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Common ancestries among residents of the area include German, Irish, English, Italian and Polish. English has remained the primary language in the community for decades. However, there are a number of residents that speak other languages as well, like Spanish and Polish.

It is a fairly wealthy area/neighborhood ranked among the top 15% of United States neighborhoods in terms of income. It has a mixed workforce of white, blue and no-collar workers.
